At Southfield Youth Assistance (SYA), we’re passionate about unlocking the potential of our youth. That’s why we’re excited to introduce our Skill Building year around  /Summer Camp Scholarships. These scholarships provide opportunities for young individuals in our community to develop their talents, learn new skills, and broaden their horizons.

We understand that financial constraints can limit access to these enriching experiences. SYA steps in to level the playing field. By investing in our youth, we’re not only fostering personal growth but also building stronger, more vibrant communities. Qualifications

Applications  

The application period for the Summer Skill Building Camp Scholarships will open on April 1, 2024, and close on June 30, 2024. Following this, the New School Year, Skills Building Scholarships will open to start accepting applications on October 1, 2024, and the application period will close on June 30, 2025. It’s important for all applicants to meet the required qualifications to be eligible for the CGBD grants.

To qualify for our program, you must fulfill the following criteria set by the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) guidelines:

  1. Southfield Residency: Applicants must be residents of Southfield.
  2. Low Income: Household income should fall below a specified threshold.
  3. Assistance Amount: Each qualifying child can receive up to $300, and each eligible family can receive a maximum of $600 in assistance.
  4. Funding: To qualify for funding, each child must participate in activities that enhance their personal or academic skills. These skill-building activities are essential for the development of competencies that will serve them throughout their educational journey and beyond.
  5. Evaluation: Scholarship Evaluation Requirement: Recipients of the scholarship, along with their program organizers, are required to collaboratively fill out an evaluation form. This form is an essential part of the scholarship application process. It is designed to evaluate the skills and knowledge acquired through the scholarship-funded activity. Failure to submit this evaluation within 30 days of the conclusion of the sponsored activity will result in the student being and or sponsoring provider disqualified from receiving funding in the next academic year.

Please note that this program is designed to provide financial support to Southfield residents facing economic challenges, with a maximum assistance amount of $300 per child and $600 per family.

We are committed to helping needy families and positively impacting our community. School project funding is allocated per child. Parents must complete a Skill Building application for their child’s activity or camp costs. Scholarship awards follow Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) guide

Step 3. Save Filled Form

Save the form as a named file with your changes on your device.

Step 4. Submit Referral form

Use the yellow button to choose the saved file on your device and then use the red button to submit it.
